STATE-OF-THE-ART HYPOXIA ROOMS
Train like the elite at altitude without leaving Benidorm
At Kenkatsu Benidorm, we have revolutionised the concept of sports accommodation by integrating state-of-the-art hypoxia technology directly into our rooms. This is our secondary differentiator and the feature that most sets us apart from local competition.
Our hypoxia rooms allow athletes to simulate altitude conditions while resting and sleeping, improving their aerobic capacity, endurance and performance in a completely natural and controlled way. This technology, used by elite athletes and professional teams, is now available in Benidorm to transform your training.
Train at altitude without leaving Benidorm
What is Hypoxia and How Does it Work?
Hypoxia is the controlled reduction of oxygen in the environment, simulating conditions experienced at high altitude. Our rooms use advanced systems that reduce oxygen concentration from 21% (sea level) to levels equivalent to 2,000-4,000 metres altitude.
How it works in our rooms
Our hypoxia systems are integrated directly into the rooms, creating a controlled environment where:
- ✓ Oxygen level is reduced gradually and safely
- ✓ Concentration is kept constant throughout the night
- ✓ The system adjusts automatically according to pre-set protocols
- ✓ Levels are completely safe and constantly monitored
The science behind hypoxia
When your body experiences lower oxygen conditions, it reacts by producing more erythropoietin (EPO), a hormone that stimulates red blood cell production. This natural process improves oxygen transport capacity in the blood, cardiovascular system efficiency, aerobic endurance and performance under normal oxygen conditions.
Benefits for Athletes
1. Improved Aerobic Capacity
Hypoxia training significantly increases your VO2 max (maximum oxygen consumption), one of the most important indicators of aerobic performance. Athletes who incorporate hypoxia sessions report 5-15% improvements in their aerobic capacity.
2. Increased Endurance
Increased red blood cell production improves your body's ability to transport oxygen to muscles during exercise. This translates into greater endurance during long training sessions, less fatigue in competition and better recovery between sets.
3. Performance Optimisation
Adaptation to hypoxia improves your body's energy efficiency, allowing you to use available oxygen better, maintain optimal performance for longer and recover faster between intense efforts.
4. Accelerated Acclimatisation
For athletes who compete or train at altitude, hypoxia rooms allow you to acclimatise before travelling, arriving already adapted and ready to perform at your best from day one.
5. Improved Sleep and Recovery
Sleeping in mild hypoxia conditions can improve rest quality and accelerate recovery processes, especially beneficial after intense training or competition.
How Does a Stay in a Hypoxia Room Work?
1. Initial assessment (10 minutes)
Our team assesses your physical condition and goals to establish the most suitable hypoxia protocol (simulated altitude, duration, frequency).
2. System adjustment (5 minutes)
The system is configured according to your personalised protocol, gradually reducing oxygen to the target level.
3. Adaptation period (first night)
During the first few hours, your body adapts to the conditions. You may experience slightly deeper breathing, which is completely normal and safe.
4. Optimised stay
From the second night onwards, your body is already adapted and you begin to reap the full benefits of hypoxia training.
5. Continuous monitoring
The system constantly monitors oxygen levels and adjusts automatically to ensure your safety and comfort.
What will you experience? During the first few nights, you may notice slightly deeper breathing (normal and safe), a sensation similar to being on a moderate mountain, and sleep that may be more restorative after the initial adaptation.
